Man In The Mirror

Michael Jackson’s famous song; Man In the Mirror. I love the line,  I’m asking him to change his ways. The one that says,  gonna make a difference. This song is sort of my mantra.

The Bible uses the analogy of the mirror as truth. Everyday, we must look at His truth and say am I going to transform myself to make a difference.

Far too often, we look to people to change or transform. By doing this we are not really thriving. We stay in a status of complacency and laziness. We want other people to change because once they do the work we can sit and judge them on what we would have done.

This is never so true with civilians looking to leaders. We expect them to be perfect, and have all answers. Yet we as civilians refuse to volunteer, donate to local organizations that fill needs government is not even aware of yet.

I remember, I was in Barrie, Ontario and a homeless man crossed our path. The person I was hanging out with said, “ That is so disgusting it should not be this way.” I then retorted back, well, “ Are you personally donating money to ensure it does not happen?” She got really quiet and offended.  I then said, “It is not the governments job to fix everything every civilian must act to end it.” I was young at the time and in youth I knew what I said was true. My parents spent endless hours feeding the hungry, working with kids in the ghetto, I myself have helped drug addicts, and spend endless hours counselling people who simply cannot afford it but need help.

If we see the world as a desert parched; and we become the water and everyday we add a little to it, the world would grow. Seeds would bloom and the hearts of people they would flourish. It starts with tiny acts of goodness. Giving a seat up for someone. Waiting a bit longer at the door for an elderly person to shuffle in. Showing kindness to the waiter who is taking too long. Most importantly having empathy!

I dare you to look at truth as to who you are. What are your beliefs are they benefiting the world or only you? Are they for God or against God? What about attitudes and prejudices where did they come from and what are you going to do to fight them?

We all have a part to play are you doing your part or expecting people to do your part and their part. You cannot complain about the world or it’s issues unless you are doing something about it.

By starting on your purpose you will thrive!!!!
